Steps to remove Maximum File name limitation in Windows 10

The Default max file name length(MAX_PATH) is 260 char. If there is a need to increase this length, then below steps can be followed.

Via Registry:

  1. Win + R Key–> Type –> REGEDIT
  2. Go to path –> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
  3. Locate the DWORD LongPathsEnabled
  4. Change the value from 0 to 1 and click OK
  5. Restart the system

Via Group Policy:

  1. Win + R Key –> Type gpedit.msc
  2. Navigate to path –> Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Filesystem > Enable NTFS/Win32 long paths.
